LOCAL MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT: ZentoBox
AKA Zenya Bian, originally from Portland, Oregon and currently attending UCLA. Aside from indie rock and electro-pop, Bian indulges the listener in emotionally charged, lyrical masterpieces (usually with fun synths! yippee!). Her latest single, Angel, takes us through a tale of sapphic longing that takes place in a church on Christmas day; very Carol (2015), no?
Her genre, which is admittedly hard to pin down, is reminiscent of boygenius, Ethel Cain, Peach Pit, The Marias, and other indie icons that I'm sure you've heard about from a guy with a mustache at a bar in Silverlake.
Sound is a big part of my practice, whether it be whatever I'm listening to at the time of creation or noises and beats that I myself produce; surrealism crosses media and should include any important parts of lived experience!!!!!!!
